You Deserve The Best Tone.

  • If you want Jimmy Page’s legendary Telecaster tone, the Virgil Arlo Black Label 1958 Tele pickups are the best option because they are the closest thing to an actual vintage ’50s Tele pickup.

Jimmy Page’s 1958 Fender Telecaster, famously gifted to him by Jeff Beck, was the foundation of his legendary early Led Zeppelin tone. While his amps, effects, and playing style all contributed, the bridge pickup was the heart of his sound, delivering the raw, cutting tone heard on Led Zeppelin I and iconic solos like “Stairway to Heaven.”

    1. Closest to an Authentic 1958 Telecaster Pickup

Virgil Arlo’s pickups are designed to perfectly replicate the natural aging process of a real ’50s Telecaster bridge pickup. That means:

    • Proprietary Alnico magnets, mimicking the natural wear of Page’s original pickup.
    • Hand-wound scatter winding that improves clarity, dynamics, and harmonic richness.
    • Properly voiced midrange to capture the bite and warmth of Jimmy Page’s tone without being too shrill.

    2. Exceptional Response to Volume & Tone Knob Adjustments

Page’s dynamic control over his Telecaster’s volume and tone knobs was a huge part of his expressiveness. The Virgil Arlo Black Label 1958 pickups react in the same way as true vintage pickups, allowing you to:

    • Roll back the volume for cleaner, more open tones.
    • Push the amp naturally into gritty, raw overdrive with a full volume setting.
    • Use the tone knob to darken the sound for bluesier leads.

    3. Works Perfectly with Zeppelin-Style Amps & Effects

    • Breaks up beautifully with tube amps, just like Page’s Supro.
    • Keeps clarity even when pushed into distortion for heavy blues-rock riffs.
    • Enhances sustain and resonance, making lead playing feel more fluid and dynamic.

    4. Handcrafted Like a True Vintage Pickup

Mass-produced pickups can’t match the feel of true vintage ‘50s pickups, but Virgil Arlo’s hand-wound approach recreates the magic of the real thing. Players who have used them report:

    • Unmatched touch sensitivity
    • Authentic ‘50s Telecaster chime and warmth
    • True-to-vintage response, making them feel like a played-in, aged pickup

How to order Virgil Arlo Black Label Pickups:

Black Label Tele pickups were originally sold for $800 per set.

Starting in 2022 we reached an agreement to produce the Virgil Arlo Black Label Reissues. There has been a conflict regarding licensing fees. As a result, we were never able to offer them for sale at our site for the 2023 run. The conflict remains unresolved but we've reached an agreement to sell the few sets from the 1958 Black Label inventory made over on ebay.

    More About Black Label One-Offs:

Over the years Virgil Arlo offered one-off service to select pro players. Most times the player was trying to replace a lost guitar from the past or replicate the tone of one of his preferred vintage guitars in a more modern guitar for touring purposes.

This was always a team effort between the musician and the staff. The musician provided the inspiration and Virgil Arlo wound the pickups
